◦ Summer Hire Program (SHP): High school and college students are exposed to multiple engineering technologies at TARDEC for an 8- to 10-week period. Students are paid to put their skills to work while participating in a leading-edge engineering experience. If you would like to learn more about our SHP, a call for applications announcement is posted every February at: www.usajobs.com. The title of the position is Engineering Aid/Engineering Technician. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, high school (age 16 or older) & college students interested in an Engineering/Science career.
◦ Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART): The SMART Defense Education Program is a scholarship-for-service program in which students who have demonstrated the ability and aptitude to excel in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines can receive a full scholarship and be gainfully employed upon degree completion. SMART Scholars receive a salary to cover room and board, and generally work at national research laboratories during summer periods. Upon completion of their degrees, students are required to work for the DOD as civilian employees for a period of time related to that period of time covered in the scholarship program.
