FORT BENNING, Ga., (June 18, 2014) -- US TOP GHANA 2-1
It only took 32 seconds for the U.S. soccer team to jump out in front of Ghana in the 2014 FIFA World Cup at Arena das Dunas in Natal, Brazil, as the U.S. held on to win 2-1 to avenge two previous years' ousters to Ghana.
Clint Dempsey scored the first goal in the first 32 seconds of the match and became the first U.S. player to score in three different World Cups. His goal was the fastest goal scored by an American in World Cup history.
Ghana's Andre Ayew tied the game in the 82nd minute, but John Brooks clinched the win with a goal in the 86th minute to give the U.S. the win.
The U.S. is now tied with Germany in Group G and will play Portugal at 6.p.m. June 22. The game will be televised on ESPN.
SPURS WIN ONE FOR THE THUMB
The San Antonio Spurs took the heat during the NBA playoffs, but on June 15 they took the Heat to school by winning the NBA Finals for the fifth time.
Although five titles still doesn't put them in the book with the greatest teams of all time like the Lakers or Celtics, it does put them in a category as of one of the best in the modern era.
The Heat has been the most dominant team in the NBA the last couple of years, but the Spurs avenged last year's loss to the Heat in the championship series by blowing out the Heat in four of their five games, only dropping one game to the Heat.
Kawhi Leonard of the Spurs had 22 points and 10 rebounds and was named the Finals MVP.
The Spurs won NBA titles in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007 and this year won a league-high 62 games.
KINGS WIN NHL TITLE 4-1
If the Los Angeles Kings aren't a dynasty, they are on their way to being one after beating the New York Rangers four games to one June 15 to win the Stanley Cup.
It took two overtimes to get the 3-2 win, but the warm-weather Kings won their second Cup in three years.
Alec Martinez scored the game winner 14:43 in the second overtime to clinch the Cup for the Kings. The two-overtime win was the third overtime game of the series.
The Kings are the only team in the last seven seasons to win the Cup at home, and they've done it twice.
