Contracting officers were on hand in Mourmelon and Mailley, France, providing contracting support for Rochambeau 2014.

The NATO-led exercise includes multi-national forces from the U.S., France, Great Britain, Canada, and Belgium.

"I always enjoy supporting these exercises because you get to interact with multinational military members. There's always something to learn about the different cultures, and I get to do it as a U.S. Soldier," said Sgt. 1st Class Saba Samuels, a contract specialist with the 409th Contracting Support Brigade, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Rochambeau is a computer-assisted exercise designed to improve the readiness of French and United Kingdom land forces, and enhance the interoperability between a combined joint expeditionary force and U.S.-led land component command.

409th CSB contracting officers supported the exercise by writing and managing contracts for laundry services, non-tactical vehicle rentals, internet connectivity, fuel and meals.

"Because of the language barrier, it wasn't always easy conducting business with potential French contractors, but it's always interesting to work with different nations, and we always get the job done," said Samuels.
