BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan--Nine 3-401st Army Field Support Battalion Soldiers received end of tour awards during an awards ceremony presided over by Lt. Col. Marvin L. Walker, battalion commander, Sgt. 1st Class Julie J. Romett, battalion sergeant major, and Martin Utzig, 401st Army Field Support Brigade deputy to the commanding officer Jun. 2 at battalion headquarters.

The Soldiers are nearing the end of a 12-month deployment that saw them assigned to various locations that fall under the battalion area of operations. Some were moved to new locations as the battalion missions and priorities changed during their deployment. The Soldiers are all members of the U.S. Army Reserve and will soon be returning to families, friends and their civilian jobs.

Bronze Star Medals were awarded to LT. Col. Jay L. Palenapa, Lt. Col. Don C. Taylor, Capt. Michale E. Zellous, 1st Lt. Remilekun J. Bankole, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jon P. Leland, Master Sgt. Melvin A. Logan, Master Sgt. Richard B. Lott and Sgt. 1st Class Anita K. Crusoe-Bellas.

An Army Commendation Medal was awarded to Sgt. 1st Class Ivan K. Line.

Lt. Col. Wendell B. Taylor was not present to receive his Bronze Star Medal.

Combat Action Badges were presented to Lt. Col. Palenapa and Sgt. 1st Class Line who were engaged by the enemy during their deployment.

On 2 May 2005, the Chief of Staff, Army, approved the creation of the Combat Action Badge to provide special recognition to Soldiers who personally engaged, or are engaged by the enemy.
