The Army Contracting Command is preparing to assume the contingency contract administration services mission in Africa, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
Currently, the mission belongs to the Defense Contract Management Agency, according to Lt. Col. Wyeth S. Anderson, director, Regional Contracting Office Africa, 414th Contracting Support Brigade. The 414th will assume administrative contracting officer and quality assurance representative duties June 14.
"For the supported customers on the ground, the change is transparent," Anderson said. "For RCO Africa and the 414th CSB, it simplifies the operation by streamlining acquisition and command authority so they are both completely under the 414th CSB."
Anderson said a contracting officer, a major, will serve as the ACO and a contracting noncommissioned officer, a sergeant first class, will serve as the QAR.
"This new mission set will significantly increase ACC's role in supporting our deployed forces," said Brig. Gen. Ted C. Harrison, ACC commanding general. "To support this endeavor, we are asking for volunteers to serve on contingency contracting deployments based out of Kuwait and Qatar. This opportunity is open to all Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act certified level 2 and 3 employees in the 1102, 1103 and 1910 career fields."
Harrison said deployments are excellent opportunities to provide direct support to America's men and women who answer the nation's call to arms.
"I've often related how my own contingency contracting deployments broadened my knowledge in contracting and added to my confidence as a contracting professional," said Harrison. "In addition, there are career development opportunities as well as financial incentives for those who volunteer."
Sandra Merritt, ACC deployment specialist, said deployments range from 179 to 365 days. Interested ACC personnel can go to http://www.armyhire.com/cadre to self-nominate. Self-nominating does not obligate the nominee in any way and the submission will be kept confidential, she added.
