Cancer Awareness Laps for Life

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- Several hours into the second annual Cancer Awareness Laps for Life event Sept. 19, runners and walkers are still going strong around the track on Patrick Henry Village. Throughout the 12-hour overnight event, the more than 900 registered walkers and runners combined laps totaled more than 5,700 miles. About 1,500 community members attended the event.

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- Eleanor Gould, a cancer survivor and former opera singer, finishes the "Survivors' Lap," kicking off the second annual Cancer Awareness Laps for Life event on Patrick Henry Village Sept. 19. Gould sang the National Anthem at the event just before about 1,500 community members took to the track for the 12-hour event.

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- About 60 cancer survivors from the Heidelberg area kick off the second annual Cancer Awareness Laps for Life event with the "Survivors' Lap" on the high school track on Patrick Henry Village. About 1,500 community members participated in the event, which began at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 and ran until 6 p.m. Sept. 20.
