FORT BENNING, Ga., (May 21, 2014) -- Present and future Infantrymen, Families and friends gathered May 19 for the 198th Infantry Brigade change of command on Parade Field at the National Infantry Museum.
Maj. Gen. H. R. McMaster, reviewing officer and commanding general of the Maneuver Center of Excellence, welcomed the new incoming brigade commander Col. Richard Timmons and bid farewell to the outgoing brigade commander Col. Jonathan Neumann.
The brigade, he said, will continue its success as it shifts from one talented leader to the next.
McMaster said Timmons will bring extraordinary leadership and that his career has prepared him to take on this new command and his reputation is best in line with the demands of this nation.
Timmons' previous positions include Airborne, Air Assault, Light and Mechanized Infantry units, two tours in Afghanistan and Panama, commander of 2nd Battalion, 58th Infantry Regiment, and chief of Doctrine and Collective Training at the MCoE.
Timmons said he appreciated the warm welcome and that this opportunity is possible due to "the officers, NCOs, friends in the stands and throughout the Army."
"It is an honor and privilege to once again serve in your ranks," he said. "I look forward to working with all of you and leading this formation as we continue the very important work and training for our Army and to do our nation's business."
McMaster said outgoing commander Neumann preserved and expanded the high quality training the brigade is known for.
Neumann said the ones who were responsible for their mission's success was the non-commissioned officers.
"Never, in my 25 years in the Army, have I had the privilege to observe such superb non-commissioned officers demonstrate their craft," he said. "I only hope the officers and I upheld our side of the bargain, to provide leadership, guidance and resources that such intense work demands."
Neumann will serve as the director of the Department of Military Structure at West Point.
