A Global Integrated Partnership for Communication Securities (GIPC) User Information Process and Technology (IPT) Meeting, facilitated by Communications Security Logistics Activity, or CSLA, took place Tuesday and Wednesday at Greely Hall, to provide updated information and training for users in the communications security, or COMSEC, community.
The purpose of the event was to provide COMSEC users with a collaborative forum to understand who the Army stakeholders are and what they can do to help sole COMSEC concerns; discuss current efforts and future challenges with subject matter experts regarding COMSEC operations, products and solutions; and receive hands-on training with products and services which support the user's mission.
The first day began with a welcoming session during which the director of CSLA, Monte Hill, introduced senior leaders from Product Director Network Enablers, or PD Net E, who sponsored the IPT meeting. Stan Niemiec, director of PD Net E, Dennis Teefy, product director for key management, and Robert Vik, product director for cryptographic systems, provided an overview of the efforts being made to modernize COMSEC equipment and upgrade the hardware and software.
Hill then presented four Soldiers with the 2013 COMSEC Account Managers of the Year award recognizing their significant contributions to the Army's communication security.
A GIPC User IPT Luncheon was held later that day at the Thunder Mountain Activity Centre.
The remainder of the two-day event was divided into four key subject area blocks: The Next Generation of COMSEC; COMSEC Sustainment and Supportability; Safeguarding and Monitoring COMSEC (Compliance and Assessment); and Account Management. After each block, a panel of subject matter experts was available for questions or further information.
During the event, three "breakout sessions" were conducted that discussed software or hardware in further detail.
Hands-on equipment exhibits and demonstrations were set up for the entire event.
The IPT meeting was open to all warfighters, users and customers within the COMSEC community.
