FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Soldiers, Family Members and Civilians gathered April 16 at the Multipurpose Auditorium to recognize the graduates of Warrior Leader Course Class 05-14.

Guest speaker 1st Sgt. Stephen D. Anderson, deputy commandant of the Fort Drum Noncommissioned Officers Academy, con- gratulated the Soldiers on making it through the rigorous course.

He spoke of the challenges -- both physical and mental -- that the Soldiers faced, and of the value of Soldiers sharing experiences and information with one another.

"I have been in the back of the platoon classrooms listening and observing what each and every Soldier has to bring to the table -- their varied perceptions and problem-solving techniques," Anderson said. "How you interact through conversation and teamwork is vital to gaining an understanding of all subject areas per- taining to the noncommissioned officers' daily duties and scope."

Anderson encouraged the graduates to think of each challenge they face as an opportunity to learn -- both from their triumphs and their shortcomings.

"Value the education system the Army provides and embrace the experiences that will be gained throughout your military career, whether it's by making mistakes or by observing mistakes," he said.

He also challenged the Soldiers to continue to seek out new learning opportunities so that they might pass this knowledge along.

"Take every opportunity to seek self improvement through military schooling and allow your subordinates to do the same … so you stand out above your peers and remain marketable in today's competitive Army," Anderson said.

After concluding his remarks, Anderson assisted the WLC staff in recognizing each graduate.
