2 minute warning: US runner wins Boston Marathon

FORT BENNING, Ga., (April 23, 2014) -- For the first time since 1985, an American runner won the Boston Marathon.

The last runner to win the marathon was Lisa Larsen-Weidenbach, who took the women's title in 1985.

This year, Meb Keflezighi was the first U.S. male to win the race since 1983, finishing at 2 hours, 8 minutes and 37 seconds, outlasting Wilson Chebet of Kenya, who finished 11 seconds behind.

After last year's bombing at the finish line, which killed three and injured more than 260, it's good to see an American win the race after a 29-year absence of having an American finish first.

Last year's top female winner, Rita Jeptoo of Kenya, successfully defended her title by finishing in a course-record 2:18:57. In winning this year's race, she became the seventh three-time Boston Marathon champion Buzunesh Deba finished second with an unofficial time of 2:19:59.

You're fired

It's been said New York is a player's and coaches' nightmare when it comes to what is expected from New York teams.

New York Knicks' head coach Mike Woodson and his entire coaching staff found out how true that is after being fired Monday.

Woodson coached the Knicks for two seasons. He coached the Knicks to a 54-win regular season and a division title in 2012-13 and their first playoff series win in 13 seasons.

Following a good season, the Knicks were expected to compete for an NBA title; however, they finished with a 37-45 record and fell well short of expectations.

The team suffered more than just a few injuries, which led to a dismal season.

Phil Jackson, who took over the team in March, knows what it takes to be a champion and has begun his search for a coach who will take the team to the next level.

Jackson has won an NBA-record 11 championships, but has publicly said he does not want to return to coaching.

Woodson previously coached six seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, leading them to the playoffs in his final three seasons. He has a career record of 315-365.

The players liked Woodson, so I think you will see him in action somewhere next season, even if it's not a head coaching job.
