High schools: What parents should know

FORT BENNING, Ga., (April 23, 2014) -- Parents of high schoolers at Fort Benning have many options in the Chattahoochee Valley when it comes to enrolling their children in school. To help make the process easier, the Bayonet and Saber will feature information about each of the public high schools in the area over the next 12 weeks. One high school will be presented each week.

Marion County Middle/High School

1 Eagle Drive, Buena Vista, Ga.

•Has approximately 700 students in grades 6-12

•Mascot is the eagle

•Mission statement: To provide all students with a quality education in a safe, nurturing and challenging learning environment.

•Vision: To be No.1 academically in the Chattahoochee-Flint RESA and rank among the top schools in Georgia.

•MCMHS believes: All students can learn; engaged and guided learners equal success; teachers, administrators, parents and the community share the responsibility for advancing the school's mission; the commitment to continuous improvement is imperative for great schools.

•Athletics offered include: Football, softball, cross country, tennis, cheerleading, basketball, baseball, archery and track

•MCMHS offers a variety of career and technical education prep programs for high schoolers. The Career Pathways program offers teens the opportunity to learn about careers in one of several areas, including agriculture, business and computer science, family and consumer sciences and health care sciences.

The school also offers a variety of honors classes and an off-campus apprenticeship program for seniors.
