WASHINGTON (April 17, 2014) -- Service members and staff of the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military District of Washington hosted another fundraiser for the 2014 JFHQ-NCR/MDW Organizational Day with the bake off competition at Fort Lesley J. McNair.
The annual bake off challenged staff members to come up with their best baking ideas and participants donated money to sample and vote on their favorite dishes.
First place winner was Robert "RJ" Johnson, JFHQ-NCR/MDW J4 logistics senior supply management officer with his Pinwheel Regatta.
"Winning is not singular," said Johnson. "It's a team collaboration and that's a good thing. The entire command won with a successful fundraiser."
"The bake off competition went wonderfully well," said Teresa L. Ovalle, JFHQ-NCR/MDW Public Affairs contingency planner and bake off competition lead. "It was a lot of fun and the command came out in full force to support, which is always encouraging."
The bake off competition rose over $800, which was $100 more than the projected command goal for this event. It also raised a friendly competitive bar within each directorate.
"There is a competitive side in everyone," said Johnson. "It builds on the humility character trait, which strengthens us. This fundraiser brought the command together in a social setting with food and laughter. Those are two key ingredients of harmony in the command."
"Public Affairs needs to step up the competition next year, however, and bump the J4 out of the lead for the bake sale," said Ovalle. "Look out J4. We're gunning for you next year!"
The next fundraiser will be the pie-in-the-face event scheduled for May 2014.
