Fort Belvoir, Va. (April 10, 2014) - One hundred Fort Belvoir youth football players developed their athletic skills with several National Football League players during the 2014 Steve Smith Pro Camp, sponsored by Proctor and Gamble, April 3 at Pullen Field.

The event, coordinated by the Fort Belvoir Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, and Child, Youth and School Services, provided 100 dependents of active-duty and retired servicemembers (ages kindergarten through 8th grade), an opportunity to meet professional football players, learn the basics of the game and run some plays.

Participants were pre-selected by DFMWR CYSS youth sports program staff and volunteers and camp officials included Proctor and Gamble representatives, local high school coaches and CYSS youth sports team coaches. Proctor and Gamble sponsored the event in partnership with the Defense Commissary Agency. Professional NFL players included former Carolina Panthers and new Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith, lead camp instructor; Washington Redskins wide receiver Andre Roberts, and New England Patriots wide receiver Brandon LaFell. Campers were divided into groups of 10 and spent the evening running youth sports drills and DFMWR staff followed the event with pizza and a question and answer session.
