In an effort to solidify the "one community" concept, the Grafenwoehr and Vilseck Community Spouses' clubs have recently combined.
Cheryl Hintz, president of the club who took over the reins in January, said the combination has drawn the community together.
"Although we often worked together, (having) two clubs was still a dividing line," she said. "But we've always had a common goal, which is to support our garrison."
The combination of the two entities, she said, makes that goal easier to achieve.
The spouses' club has been active in the community since 1956.
Along with providing social and cultural opportunities for its members, the mission of the club is to raise funds throughout the year, which are then distributed in educational scholarships and community welfare grants to members of the Bavaria Military Community.
Last year, the club awarded more than $100,000 in grants and scholarships to local community members.
Additionally, the club runs events and programs aimed at community involvement. From trips to Italy, to Bunco games to philanthropy projects, the club offers opportunities for a variety of interests.
Subclubs that evolved from the BCSC offer social opportunities to those with shared interests. Clubs include sewing and quilting, Book Club, Writers Workshop, Maj Jong, Lunch Bunch, Dining Out Club, Antik & Trodel Club and the Fit Club.
The annual Arts and Craft Fair, coming up April 5 at Vilseck Elementary School, showcases the community's talents and offers them an outlet for selling their wares.
The Bavaria Community Spouses' Club is open to all I.D. cardholders, whether you are a spouse, Soldier or local national.
"If you're a part of the community, you can be a part of the club," said Hintz.
