The Hon. Heidi Shyu, assistant secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics & Technology) and Army acquisition executive, along with Gen. Dennis Via, commanding general, Army Materiel Command and AMC's Command Sgt. Major James Sims, visited the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade locations in Kuwait and Qatar March 16.

Other accompanying guests were Col. John Laskodi, director of the CG's Initiatives Group for AMC, Col. Rodney Fogg, AMC executive officer, Col. Karen Saunders, chief of staff, ASA(ALT) Senior Executive Service Grace Bochenek, Industrial and Systems Engineering, AMC chief technology officer and SES Robert Turzak, AMC deputy chief of staff for Resource Management.

While in Kuwait, the senior leaders received a U.S. Army Central and 1st Theater Sustainment Command briefing from Maj. Gen. Dana Pittard, ARCENT deputy commanding general and Maj. Gen. Darrell Williams, commanding general, 1st TSC.

They also received a Materiel Enterprise briefing from all three AMC brigade commanders -- Col. James Kinkade, 402nd AFSB, Lt. Col. (P) Americus "Chip" Gill, 408th Contracting Sustainment Brigade, and Col. David Banian, 595th Transportation Brigade, along with Lt. Col. Scott Madore, ASA(ALT) forward director.

The distinguished visitors expressed great interest during their tour of an off-post leased facility. They also visited two Army Prepositioned Stock-5 (APS-5) warehouses and the Kuwait intermediate staging base staging lot, located on Camp Arifjan, where equipment is being processed from Afghanistan.

Sims took the time to participate in the Noncommissioned Officer Development Program with the enlisted Soldiers after he toured the warehouses. During his visit, Sims recognized two Army Field Support Battalion-Kuwait Soldiers by presenting them with his coin for their hard work. Recipients were Sgt. 1st Class Rusten Brockett, maintenance NCO, and Staff Sgt. Deydamia Davenport, supply operations NCO.

Madore hosted a portion of the visit with Shyu as she and the group visited the main communications facility. The visitors observed a project completed by Product Manager Power Projection Enablers, in coordination with the 160th Signal Brigade, commanded by Col. Linda Jantzen.

"Honorable Shyu was impressed with the capability here on Camp Arifjan, and all the work the Materiel Enterprise is accomplishing," Madore said.

Kinkade and Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald Ferdinand, 402nd AFSB command sergeant major, traveled to Qatar for the second leg of the visit where AFSBn-Qatar hosted the group in partnership with Area Support Group-Qatar and the U.S. Embassy.

Both Shyu and Via met with Qatar Armed Force's Maj. Gen. Hamad Bin Ali Al Attiyah, the Minister of State for Defense Affairs, and other distinguished guests.

AFSBn-Qatar also conducted a tour of APS-5 warehouses and displayed their strategic capabilities on Camp As Sayliyah, highlighting the battalion's motor pool, Inland Petroleum Distribution System test loop, battalion test track, and the container yard.
