FORT BENNING, Ga (March 19, 2014) -- The Gladiators cruised past the Blue Devils 24-8 in their last game of the Child, Youth & School Services 11- to 13-year-old basketball season Saturday at Santiago Gym.

The first quarter was a low-scoring 2-2 tie, and while both teams were good at rebounding, they missed several opportunities to score from the field and the free-throw line.

It wasn't until the second quarter when the Gladiators' offense picked up and extended their lead to eight points over the Blue Devils. Gladiator Angel Ramirez, the game's leading scorer, was the difference maker and scored six of the team's eight points. Ramirez scored 13 points in the entire game.

"With my strong players, I tried to even it out a little bit," said Gladiator coach Justin Harder. "I put one of the strong players in and I'll put some not-so-strong players in. I try to build my strategy around them."

The Blue Devils attempted a comeback in the third quarter by scoring five points, but were shot down again when the Gladiators doubled their score in the fourth quarter.

"I think the biggest thing is they wanted to finish the season on a good note," Harder said. "And they played hard and they gave it everything they had."
