Letterkenny Army Depot answers the call by providing Soldier support and saving lives.
A request from the Program Office for Force Projection, through TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, requested that LEAD fabricate armor plating for installation on the Buffalo vehicle.
Buffalo vehicles have been used to clear thousands of miles of dangerous roads in Iraq and Afghanistan and open safe passage for troop convoys and other vehicles.
The buffalo was first deployed in Afghanistan in 2003 and is the only vehicle to fill the military\'s Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Category III program requirement. Letterkenny's responsiveness and experience in fabricating armor met the mark.
Team Letterkenny worked with TACOM LCMC on prototype and Technical Data Package finalization and then quickly shifted into production fabricating Explosive Formed Penetrator kits for Buffalos as quickly as possible.
Letterkenny employees participated in installing EFP Kits in the states and by sending kits overseas for installation to vehicles in service. Recently one of Letterkenny's produced EFP Kits installed on Buffalo #79 took an EFP hit and the Soldiers riding in the Buffalo survived.
Lt. Col. Charles Dease, Product Manager for Assured Mobility Systems, traveled to Letterkenny to personally thank the Letterkenny Team and presented them with a plaque.
"Hard work and dedication pay off when Soldiers walk away from an EFP hit. This crew in this Buffalo survived because of the EFP kit built at Letterkenny," said Dease. "Letterkenny Army Depot saves lives with the EFP kit development."
