ANSBACH, Germany (March 7, 2014) -- In a concentrated effort to provide higher quality service throughout the community, the USAG Ansbach garrison staff will implement mandatory staff training days and times, effective March 14.

Mirroring our Army's legacy "Sergeant's Time" program, we will close our front door services and reduce our support services every Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. All activities -- except Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation facilities -- will resume full service at 1 p.m.

All FMWR facilities will open at noon on the training days. To ensure minimal impact to single parent Soldiers or dual Soldier-parent households, we will adjust our internal training days for Child Development Center activities to be on U.S. Army Europe training holidays.

There will be a necessary minor reduction in service hours for customer access and contact, and as a garrison we must adapt to the emerging operational reality of having reduced staff resources and a large increase in training requirements. In this regard, we face the same challenges as the mission units that we support.

Every high-performing Army organization gets to its level of performance by making quality training a top priority within its formation. We intend on being a high-performing Army organization.

Based on our lessons learned from the civilian employee furlough, government shutdown, and engaged community feedback loop, we feel that we need to work harder as a garrison to reach that higher level of performance that we want to provide and that our customers expect. Getting back to the basics of conducting supervisory level training at the "squad" and "platoon" level within our civilian formation is how we intend to reach that level of performance. To achieve better customer service, adjust to reduced staff through cross-functional skills, and more, we must train as individuals, teams and divisions.

As a garrison, we previously had a similar program with the same hours in 2009. We made operational decisions at that time to terminate the program to allow for more hours of customer access. Unfortunately, we have seen a decrease in our team proficiencies over time and we must improve our capabilities through quality, profession-based training led by first-line team leaders and supervisors.

As professional and positive members of the Army team, both as Soldiers and Families, we know that the community supports our effort to get better, stronger and faster at what we do and how we do it. The overall benefit is for the community as a whole. We regret the reduction in hours, but we appreciate your patience as we transition to new hours and service access. We hope that what we lose in reduced access we will more than make up for in increased quality.
