As Mountain Vista Communities, or MVC, reaches the end of the initial five-year development plan on Fort Huachuca, they are finishing up the last part of construction around post, in the next few months.
When the development plan is finished, Fort Huachuca will have completed four new neighborhoods -- Gatewood Village, Deanza Village, Coronado Village and Signal Village. "We have used only local contractors for construction of the new neighborhoods and community center," said Jolene Cooper, marketing outreach coordinator with MVC." "That is a big deal to Michaels Military Housing -- using local contractors to help boost the economy right in our own backyard."
To keep the residents informed, Cooper provided a few updates. Revitalization is now complete on
Grierson and Henry Circle. "All of the historical homes have been revamped with granite countertops, top-of-the-line appliances, new bathroom fixtures and many more upgrades," Cooper said.
The housing demolition on Luke and Madden Streets in Cavalry Park 6 has begun and will be completed in a few months. On Mott Circle, the selective demolition of some homes has begun and should be complete in a few weeks as well. The homes being torn down are vacant homes. Occupied homes are not scheduled for demolition at this time.
"Please bear with us during all of the construction," Cooper said. "We really try our best to keep construction periods as short as possible to limit disruption in our neighborhoods. The overall goal is to provide the most appealing place to live in the Army." Mountain Vista Communities will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new MVC Community Center March 11, at 9:30 a.m. at 802 Rucker, off the traffic circle by the Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center. The public is invited.The building will be open for operation and self-guided tours following the ceremony.
Inside the new community center is a multi-purpose room that can be used for private parties or meetings, a fitness room, a tot room, a youth activity room and more. Outside are a dog park, a Frisbee-Golf field, a volleyball court and a basketball court. Only MVC residents are authorized to use the facility.
The handicap accessible playground that used to be located across from Burger King has been relocated to the new community center. It will be open on March 11 following the grand opening of the new community center.
As always, the construction sites should be avoided to prevent possible injuries. Parents should explain to children the dangers of playing around a construction area. Keep a direct line of sight on the children when passing by these areas, and abide by all traffic and construction signs.
Residents may notice an increase in construction traffic. For safety, they are asked to park in driveways when possible and use caution when parking near an active construction site.
