FORT BENNING, Ga., (Feb. 12, 2014) -- Although Forward Support Company, 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, rolled over the 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, Ronald Lee of 1-19 didn't make it easy.
Lee had a hot hand in Monday's intramural basketball league matchup against FSC, knocking down seven 3-pointers and went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. In all, Lee accounted for 53.6 percent of 1-19s points, but it wasn't enough to withstand the onslaught of offense from FSC.
FSC went on a 24-point run in the first half and shot 6-for-8 from the free-throw line to build a 34-10 halftime lead.
FSC's Ovondre Thomas scored 15 points in the first half and was perfect from the free-throw line, going 2-for-2 after drawing fouls on two baskets and hit one 3-point shot.
While 1-19 took multiple shots and controlled the boards with each possession, FSC controlled the court and made each shot count.
In the second half, FSC continued to score on almost each possession and took a 57-31 lead with five minutes remaining, but Lee just kept hitting 3-pointers, six of his seven coming in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the total offensive dominance of FSC.
"We started off with everyone just trying to get in the groove," FSC coach Petrene Caldwell said. "They had a different type of offense and they scored some, but our defense showed up after that."
Caldwell attributed the multiple shots on the goal by 1-19 to their strong shooters on the team, but said the defense stepped up in the second half.
She said Lee of 1-19 really surprised her with his seven 3-pointers.
"To be such a big guy, he can really shoot on the outside," she said. "I was kind of shocked by that. Even when you were in his face, he was still coming through with the shots."
Lee led all scorers with 22 points while Thomas led FSC with 19 points.
