
WASHINGTON (Feb. 6, 2014) - - Keeping up to date on the mission and capabilities of the Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (JFHQ-NCR/MDW) was the goal of Army Vice Chief of Staff, Gen. John F. Campbell, during his visit to the command's headquarters at Fort Lesley J. McNair.
JFHQ-NCR/MDW Commander Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan and members of his staff also described the capabilities and readiness of the Emergency Response Vehicle, Mobile Command Post and Joint Operations Center which assist his command to respond cooperatively with other federal agencies and civilian authorities in the National Capital Region (NCR).
"I want to tell you all to continue to get the word out about what it is you do here in the Nation's Capital," said Campbell to Buchanan and his staff. "The support and capabilities you can bring to the table in support of local civilian authorities is amazing."
JFHQ-NCR plans, coordinates, maintains situational awareness, and as directed, partners in the employment of forces as a Joint Task Force to conduct homeland defense and civil support operations in the NCR. That support is provided to civil authorities in the District of Columbia and neighboring counties and cities of Maryland and Virginia. It draws together the existing resources of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard into a single point headquarters for planning, coordination and execution of its mission.
MDW serves as the Army Forces Component to, and core staff element of, the JFHQ-NCR and provides executive, operational, ceremonial and musical support across a full spectrum of worldwide responsibilities to support our Nation?'s leaders.
