FORT SILL, Okla. (Feb. 6, 2014) -- Federal primary or special election voting starts in March, April or May.
People who intend to vote can visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program website at www.FVAP.gov. It provides information on registering to vote and requesting absentee ballots according to individual state deadlines and requirements.
States must provide requested ballots 45 days before an election. For those who do not receive a requested state ballot at least 30 days before an election, prepare, print and sign the backup Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB) at FVAP.gov
Submit the FWAB to local election officials. The FWAB is also available in embassies, consulates and military installations around the world.
All uniformed services members residing outside of their voting jurisdiction, their eligible family members and citizens residing outside the U.S. who are residents of any of the below listed states and would like to participate in elections should submit a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA), which acts as a request for voter registration and a request for an absentee ballot. FVAP officials recommend using the online assistant to prepare, print and sign an FPCA at FVAP.gov.
Be sure to include an email address, phone number and/or fax number on the FPCA in the event local election officials must contact you.
Remember, many states allow people to submit FPCAs electronically and are required to deliver blank ballots electronically (by email or fax) or provide online ballot access.
Go to FVAP.gov or state election websites to see how to return forms.
Upcoming primary election dates are:
March 4 -- Texas;
March 18 -- Illinois;
April 1 -- District of Columbia;
May 6 -- Indiana, North Carolina and Ohio;
