CRANE, Ind. - Crane Army Ammunition Activity hosted Army Materiel Command Commander Gen. Benjamin Griffin and Joint Munitions Command Commander Col.(promotable) Larry Wyche Aug. 20, presenting a strong overview of the activity's operations and efforts toward continuous improvement.
During the visit, CAAA provided Griffin and Wyche with presentations highlighting current operations, future goals and its Lean/Six Sigma improvements. CAAA's Commander Col. Charles Kibben, Civilian Executive Assistant John Boling and Chief of Staff Norman Thomas also provided the visitors with a tour of the activity, allowing the CAAA employees a chance to showcase the activity's hard work and improvements.
In his first visit to Crane, Wyche toured the Activity's decoy flare production, demolition kit production, and demilitarization and containerization facilities, gaining the opportunity to better understand how CAAA is able to execute its mission on schedule. Later in the day when Griffin arrived, the two commanders toured the pyrotechnic facility, ammunition surveillance workshop and the Ammunition Transportation and Tracking Control Center, where they learned how the system is used to increase shipping and receiving productivity.
As both commanders toured the Activity, a constant question of how they could help the employees do their job better was asked. It provided the people at CAAA a chance to discuss their jobs and better realize that the leadership beyond Indiana was greatly interested in seeing them succeed.
CAAA was established in Oct. 1977 and is a tenant of the Navy Region Midwest, Naval Support Activity Crane. The Army activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components.
