FORT JACKSON, S.C. -- Fort Jackson enjoyed a rare snow day Wednesday. An arctic front forced the post to shut down early Tuesday and close most operations Wednesday.

Although there were no reports of widespread power outages, forecasts of snow, ice and freezing rain were severe enough for Gov. Nikki Haley to declare a state of emergency in South Carolina.

The post resumed normal operations Thursday.
