FORT HOOD, Texas -- Soldiers assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, cased the brigade and battalion colors July 27, 2013, to prepare for a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Their mission included assisting the Afghan Forces setting the conditions for other units to return home.

Having successfully completed their mission, the headquarters of 2nd "Black Jack" Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division Soldiers uncased their brigade colors Jan. 25 on Cooper Field here.

Soldiers from the brigade began returning to Fort Hood last November.

Although the brigade has been steadily returning to the states, select personnel will remain in Afghanistan to continue supporting current operations downrange.

The whole brigade is expected to return before summer.
