DARIEN, Ill. - After 41 years and a legacy of distinguished, meritorious service, Brig. Gen. Michael D. Devine, 301st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade commanding general, retired from the United States Army Reserve.

Devine was honored with a retirement ceremony and dinner hosted by Maj. Gen. David J. Conboy, commanding general of the 416th Theater Engineer Command, in Darien, Ill.

A Chicago native, Devine expressed gratitude to Conboy for his generosity in hosting the 301st MEB change of command ceremony April 13 at the Parkhurst Army Reserve Center.

Throughout his career, Devine served in many important roles that have contributed to our Army.

His first assignment as supply officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 85th Division in Chicago, marked the beginning of his heritage of dedication to service.

Since then, Devine has held various positions to include: adjutant, 3rd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 85th Division; executive officer, 3rd Battalion, Company D; commander, 3rd Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment; commander, 1685th Logistical Support Battalion, 6th Brigade, 85th Division at Camp Atterbury, Ind.; commander, 3rd Battalion, 377th Regiment, 4th Battalion, 85th Division at Fort Knox, Ky.; commander, 7th Brigade, 84th Division in Milwaukee; chief of staff, 100th Division in Louisville, Ky.; deputy commander, 200th Military Police Command at Fort Meade, Md.; and commander, 301st MEB at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

His career awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with bronze oak leaf device, the Meritorious Service Medal with silver oak leaf device, the Army Commendation Medal with two bronze oak leaf devices, and the Army Achievement Medal with bronze oak leaf device.

During the retirement ceremony, Conboy presented Devine with the Army Distinguished Service Medal, a certificate of appreciation for service from the commander in chief, Barack Obama, and an American flag for his legacy of service.

Conboy also presented Devine's wife, Eileen, with a certificate of appreciation for her own unselfish, faithful, and devoted service to her husband. Her unfailing understanding helped to support Devine's contribution to the nation.

Devine and Eileen reside in Elizabethtown, Ky. They have three children and four grandchildren.
