Commentary: Remember King's legacy

By Maj. Gen. H. R. McMasterJanuary 15, 2014

FORT BENNING, Ga., (Jan. 15, 2014) -- This holiday weekend, let us remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We can honor Dr. King's memory through our commitment to equal treatment of all. If and when we encounter injustice, we must speak up and act against all forms of inequality and prejudice.

Please be safe and look out for each other. All Soldiers traveling outside the Chattahoochee Valley area must complete a Travel Risk Planning System (TRIPS) report, which can be found online at https://safety.army.mil.

And follow these precautionary measures:

Ensure your vehicle is well maintained. Plan your route carefully, check weather reports and adjust travel arrangements accordingly.

Observe posted speed limits, increase following distance, and avoid driver fatigue.

Insist all occupants buckle up and ensure children are properly secured with seat belts.

Wear all required safety equipment and clothing when riding recreational vehicles.

Finally, please take a moment this weekend to remember our fellow Soldiers who are serving around the world, especially those engaged in combat in Afghanistan.

One Force, One Fight!
