FORT SILL, Okla. -- The Fort Sill Patriot Spouses Club is making healthy New Year's resolutions with the "It's Time to Get Fit," luncheon Jan. 14 at the Patriot Club.

"We chose January's luncheon theme keeping in mind that many of our members and guests will be thinking healthier thoughts that month. Most of us set new goals and resolutions for ourselves within the New Year, and starting off 2014 with a health-conscious luncheon seemed to be a great fit," said Laura Fleming, Patriot Spouses Club first vice president.

The luncheon is at 11 a.m. and features grilled salmon, rice pilaf, sautéed vegetables, tossed salad, baked rolls, fruit parfait and an alternative choice of chef salad. The cost is $15.

"We will have representatives from Fort Sill's Wellness Center to talk about the services they provide, we'll have a Zumba instructor to get our members and guests moving and we'll have a fun game to get everyone motivated and having fun," said Fleming.

PSC chose the theme as part of Healthy Base Initiative and to emphasize the importance of family members staying fit along with their Soldiers.

"The spouses and children are the backbone of our servicemen and women. We can't keep our Soldiers going strong if we haven't taken care of ourselves first," said Fleming. "We wanted to showcase all of the fantastic programs offered here to help people stay active or to help them reach their fitness goals."

Fleming said the luncheons are best summarized as "fun with a purpose." PSC offers spouses the opportunity to network and join various interest groups within the club, such as the cooking club, photography club, fitness club, and more.

PSC also raises money for scholarships to qualifying students to further their education and grants to local charities serving the Lawton/Fort Sill area.

"Our membership loves to get together and have a great time. It keeps us connected and involved in our community, it's a great way to meet new people, and we have a blast!" said Fleming.

Reservations must be made by Jan. 7. For more information visit www.fortsillpsc.org to RSVP or visit their Facebook page at facebook.com/fortsillpsc. Questions can be emailed to reservations@fortsillpsc.org, or call 580-215-9278.
