ANSBACH, Germany (Dec. 9, 2013) -- U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach held its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Storck Barracks Dec. 6, 2013.

The event was opened by the Illesheim Elementary School Choir, led by Amanda Underwood, singing several holiday-inspired songs. Following their performance, Kevin Griess, the deputy garrison commander, recognized the winners of the Family and Children's Art Contest and the Military Family of the Year, Chris and Eboni Bright.

The Bright Family gave hours of the personal time in support of the Storck Barracks Chapel, family readiness groups, and mentoring and assisting the Soldiers and spouses of the 2nd Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment (Attack Reconnaissance).

After the presentation, Griess introduced the mayor, or "Burgermeister," of Illesheim, Heinrich Förster. Förster thanked USAG Ansbach and the United States Army for the enduring partnership between the Community of Illesheim and Storck Barracks and wished everyone present a Frohe Weihnacten.

Santa Claus decided to interrupt the speeches by arriving on a fire engine and helping the Bright Family light the Storck Barracks Christmas Tree.

The ceremony concluded with Santa meeting with children -- and adults -- to hear their Christmas wishes.

USAG Ansbach Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation; Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers; the Bright family and many other volunteers helped make this event happen.
