CAMP CASEY, Republic of Korea -- The 403rd Army Field Support Battalion-Korea recently joined JCB field service representatives in training Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division Soldiers on the special tools needed for maintenance on the High Mobility Engineer Excavator-I at Camp Casey.
JCB, with North American headquarters in Savannah, Ga., produces the High Mobility Engineer Excavator for the Army.
The battalion is one of two under the 403rd Army Field Support Brigade. The brigade headquarters is located at Camp Henry. The 403rd AFSB is one of seven brigades that report to the Army Sustainment Command, headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill.
ASC's mission is to support Army and joint forces in support of the combat commanders around the world.
Aided with its Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command personnel, the training, held in early November, involved special tools that enabled unit mechanics and operators to troubleshoot this low-density equipment keeping them operationally ready.
Bryan Forte, Tony Espinola, and Randy Barton, TACOM Automotive logistics assistance representatives, led the HMEE-I training, which included equipment description, operation and theory of use, hands-on operation, Integrated Electronics Technical Manual use and navigation through maintenance work packages, trouble shooting, and the repair parts special tools list.
They also trained on trace electrical schematic reading and navigating through the various options available to the user while working with the schematics.
The training was valuable since the Solder-mechanics had limited experience with the equipment. The training also consisted of troubleshooting various system and subsystems within the HMEE-I and utilizing the Maintenance Support Device v3 and other kits to troubleshoot in greater detail.
