GREENSBORO, N.C. (Dec. 2, 2013) - "Leadership is about investing in yourself, understanding yourself, and applying your natural skills, attributes, and talent to better whatever organization you are a part of."
With that opening, Gen. Daniel B. Allyn, commanding general, U.S. Army Forces Command, began his morning talking with a cohort of FORSCOM military and civilian leaders enrolled in a leadership development program here today at the Center for Creative Leadership.
Each year over the last decade, FORSCOM has sent 26 field grade officers and Army civilian leaders to attend the CCL U.S. Army High Performance Leader Development Program at the Greensboro campus.
The leaders who attend the course are nominated by each of FORSCOM's major subordinate units from across the country and from its headquarters staff. Those who attend the training program each year are selected from more than 100 candidates.
"This is an effort within U.S. Army Forces Command to take our high potential leaders and provide them an opportunity to improve themselves," said Allyn.
He encouraged the group to take back what they learn from this experience and "help strengthen your organizations and begin to build the next generation of leaders for our Army."
The one-week program will conclude Dec. 6. It is designed to help participants improve self-insight of individual leadership strengths, improve coaching skills, and increase their ability to motivate, inspire, challenge and develop people.
The Center for Creative Leadership is an independent, non-profit, institution with campuses worldwide that focus on research and training to develop innovative business, public and military leadership better able to resolve difficult challenges.
"If you take what you learn here during this week and truly apply the self-development component of our leader development tenets," said Allyn, "then you have a great trajectory ahead of you."
