ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- The Army Sustainment Command's Distribution Management Center hosted a blood drive Nov. 21 that surpassed expectations.

The event, held in conjunction with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, sought 13 donors, including three first-time donors. A total of 19 people donated to the cause, with nine donors contributing for the first time.

"Having nine first time donors is a really positive and noteworthy achievement, especially when looking forward to future blood drives," said Master Sgt. Brandon Cronise, who coordinated the event for DMC.

According to the MVRBC, up to 57 separate individuals will benefit from this drive.

"A lot of people don't realize a blood donation can be used by more than one person," said John Vaughan from DMC's Distribution Integration Division, who was first in line to donate. "I'm just here to help save a life."

The MVRBC also pointed out the significance of the event's timing as it was one of the last blood drives it held before the Thanksgiving holiday. It also noted that holidays are when blood is most often needed.

"You really did a great job of motivating your donors," wrote Sharee Hoegerl, MVRBC recruitment development coordinator, in an e-mail to Cronise. "With Thanksgiving [coming up] this is so very much appreciated."
