FORT SILL, Okla. -- Varsity basketball teams for Fort Sill, Fort Bliss and Offutt Air Force Base competed at Rinehart Fitness Center Nov. 2-3.

The three teams left the gymnasium all winning and losing two games.

Fort Sill's record so far is 4-4 after inching a win away from Offutt's team in the last game, 100-99.

At one point Fort Sill had a 15 point lead, but Offutt whittled that away sinking free throw after free throw.

"We got lackadaisical. We pulled through at the end and we overcame some of the calls that were against us," said Sgt. 1st Class Brian Burns, Headquarters, Headquarters Battery, 75th Fires Brigade.

"A lot of people counted us out early. I think we played well," said Sgt. 1st Class Justin Wiggins, A Battery, 1st Battalion, 78th Field Artillery.

Offut's team of Airmen, Soldiers and civilians had just finished winning against Fort Bliss 88-83 and with a 10-minute break they returned to the court against Sill's Soldiers.

"I felt that we should have won the game, but we started off a little slow. We didn't pick up the pace like we should have in the second half. And then it all boiled down to free throws in the end," said Offutt's head coach, Rodrick Greene.

Offutt is 3-6 for the season and they said they're looking to improve those numbers in the next set of league games.

"We actually got invited to nationals last year, but we didn't make it. This year is our real first year where we've started off with everything in motion. We just have to do better. I have high expectations and they've just got to do better," said Offut's assistant coach, Kimberly Greene.

Fort Sill has had teams in the past, but this is the first time this group of Soldiers played together. They practice playing pickup games Tuesdays and Thursdays at Rinehart Fitness Center.

"As long as we improve every game that's all that matters," said Burns.

Fort Sill's team will travel deep in the heart of Texas to San Antonio to play in December.
