The U.S. Army Air Operations Group hosted a Halloween Bash Walk to promote health and wellness within the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military District of Washington staff, at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Oct, 31.

"The Soldiers of AAOG understand that a healthy workforce is mentally and physically fit. So we started a program that creates a culture of health and fitness," said Master Sgt. Nancy R. Anthony, AAOG Equal Opportunity Advisor. "That is why we created the motto 'Army Air Operations, Walking towards Health and Fitness United."

Many participants dressed in costumes as they walked a 1 1/2 mile route on Fort McNair and then were invited to a breakfast and series of presentations on health, wellness, and fitness. Barbara Ryan, MS, RN from the Office of the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army and Yolanda Wallace from Davison Army Airfield gave presentations on health, wellness and fitness.

"Superman fights to protect truth, justice, and the American way of life, which is what our Soldiers do every day," said Capt. Jason M. Halligan, JFHQ-NCR/MDW Aide-de-Camp and dressed as Superman for the day. "While I get to wear the uniform of my real life heroes on most days, as Superman I can still embody their values in a fun way."

Ryan spoke about the Performance Triad which focuses on activity, nutrition and sleep. The Performance Triad emphasizes that the Army family get adequate physical activity, nutrition and sleep to be mentally and physically fit and able to perform at their best. Enhancing Soldier and leader knowledge, attitudes and behaviors on these three areas will also help Soldier performance and resiliency, unit, and Army readiness to improve.

"I feel that fitness is not just something for today, it's for tomorrow as well. It's a way of life!" said Command Sgt. Maj. Shawn L. Jones, AAOG command sergeant major. "Responders are 'always ready' and we want our entire team to be physically and mentally fit. It was important that as a leader you lead from the front and set the example and if you can do it, have fun."
