BAMBERG, Germany (Oct. 25, 2013) -- U.S. Army Garrison Bamberg will observe Veterans Day with several events honoring veterans for their service and sacrifices.

The garrison, represented by garrison commander Lt. Col. Michelle L. Bienias, hosts a ceremony at the Warner Conference Center at 11 a.m. Nov. 7 in cooperation with the Veterans Of Foreign Wars, or VFW. This year the festivities are focusing on Vietnam War veterans.

Veterans Day, introduced by U.S. president Woodrow Wilson, was formerly called Armistice Day and honored World War I veterans. After World War II and the Korean War it was officially changed into Veterans Day, symbolizing a day of remembrance for all military veterans.

The Bamberg Commissary is inviting the community to a tribute to Vietnam veterans featuring giveaways and VFW information Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Commissary entrance. To learn more, call 0951-32414.

Bamberg's 15th Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, or JROTC, Battalion hosts a Veterans Day program Nov. 5 in the Bamberg Middle and High School Multi-Purpose Room at 2 p.m. The program includes patriotic readings, poems and songs, followed by a reception. To learn more, call 0951-300 8605 or DSN 469-8605.

All veterans, Soldiers and Families are welcome to attend Bamberg's Veterans Day events.
