YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- The 65th Medical Brigade and Combined Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) hosted a influenza administration event to get the Yongsan community vaccinate against the flu virus at the Post Exchange parking lot here, 16 Oct.

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to assist the Yongsan community in this year's flu vaccination," said Ms. Joan Sparrock, Area II Health Promotion Coordinator. "Many people are not aware of the importance of the flu shot and it's our job to help them to prevent these viruses from spreading."

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, young children, pregnant women, individuals with chronic illnesses and people over 65 years of age are considered high risk for serious flu complications. Vaccination can decrease their risk of severe flu illness.

"We try to provide all patients with the option to choose whether you want the flu shot or the flu mist," Sparrock said. "Unfortunately, if you are over the age of 59 then you will receive the flu mist."

Common signs and symptoms of the flu include: fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, and fatigue.

"It's amazing to see the amount of people that are here attending this event," said Cpt. Jonathan James, chief of Target Production in the USAF. "This is definitely the best time to get your influenza administration before it gets really cold.

Influenza administration will be given again on Oct. 30 for everyone that missed the event on Oct. 16. We look forward to seeing you there so that we can help you to help us fight against the flu this year."
