FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Monday, October 21, 2013) The Army is releasing an Operational Energy training video and 8 Power Tips aimed at encouraging Soldiers to use energy smarter on the battlefield. LTG Raymond V. Mason, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, G-4, is releasing both during this week's 2013 Annual Association of the U.S. Army Meeting and Exposition. Mason will speak at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 as part of a panel on creating efficiencies and synergies. Live Stream http://www.army.mil/professional/ilw/

The four-minute video discusses how Operational Energy increases the Army's operational effectiveness and mentions several Army Operational Energy initiatives. It stars an animated Master Sergeant Half-Mast McCanick, of PS, The Preventive Maintenance Monthly. The comic strip sergeant has instructed Army logisticians for half a century on proper maintenance. The video will be shown at the Army's AUSA booth, along with some of the new technologies, and then used at Army schoolhouses throughout the year. It is available on Army G-4's Youtube Channel at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQJggCODcFM

The 8 Power Tips provide practical steps Soldiers can take to get the most out of energy resources, whether they are on a dismounted patrol, driving, flying, or on a base. The tips are included in "Energy + Basing: The Warfighter Advantage," available on the Army G-4's website at: http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/e2/c/downloads/316462.pdf

Both efforts are part of "The Power Is in Your Hands" campaign, launched at last year's AUSA meeting by Army Secretary John McHugh, Chief of Staff Raymond T. Odierno, and Sergeant Major of the Army Raymond F. Chandler III. The campaign challenges the Army to change its operational energy culture and use energy smarter on the battlefield. During LTG Mason's presentation he will highlight the progress that has been made, and how an energy-informed culture will improve Total Army readiness and sustainment efficiencies as the Army becomes more regionally aligned.

Also speaking at AUSA will be CW4 Michael Richards, the first Operational Energy Advisor assigned to Afghanistan. He will describe his experiences of putting into action an energy culture change at the Warriors Corner (Hall A), at 2:30 on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. LTG Mason and CW4 Richards wrote an article on the topic in the September issue of Army Magazine available on Army G-4's website: http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/e2/c/downloads/311472.pdf
