CRANE, Ind. --Lt. Gen. Patricia McQuistion, deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Materiel Command, made her first visit to Crane Army Ammunition Activity Sept. 26, in order to gain a better understanding of the Activity's mission and capabilities.
Although McQuistion has familiarity with the depot system having previously commanded at Tobyhanna Army Depot, Pa., the visit to Crane Army allowed her to see its mission of ammunition logistics and production.
"I am happy to come here and learn about what you do," McQuistion said to Crane Army Ammunition Activity leadership in a morning meeting. She also encouraged the people at Crane to continue to educate the workforce at AMC on its mission and its needs so that they can provide better assistance. Crane Army is a subordinate command to the Joint Munitions Command which is subordinate to the Army Materiel Command.
McQuistion also said that the senior leadership of the Army understands the difficulty the civilian workforce has endured in trying to execute its mission during the tighter financial times.
During the visit, Crane Army presented McQuistion with an overview of the Activity's operations and efforts toward improving its production effectiveness and efficiency. In its presentation, Crane Army highlighted current operations, future goals and its challenges in operating within the confines of greater fiscal restrictions.
"It is great to have our boss here as we showcase the incredible Army workforce at
Crane Army Ammunition Activity," Col. Joe Dixon, Commander of Crane Army Ammunition Activity, said. "The Army Materiel Command is the Department of Defense's premier provider of materiel readiness, including technology, acquisition support, materiel development, logistics power projection, and sustainment. And we are an important part of that mission. Crane Army Ammunition Activity is a unique, precious asset to the nation as it provides conventional ammunition solutions to the Department of Defense."
In her first visit to Crane Army, McQuistion toured the Activity's pyrotechnic facility, machine shop, decoy flare production, and shipping and receiving facilities. McQuistion also had to a chance to see quality of work environment improvements that Crane Army has accomplished at its facilities.
Established Oct. 1977, Crane Army Ammunition Activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure in order to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components. Crane Army Ammunition Activity also provides command oversight of Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Letterkenny Munitions Center, Pa., and Milan Army Ammunition Center, Tenn.
