Fort Sill law enforcement and Southwest Oklahoma law enforcement agencies will kick-off Domestic Violence Prevention Month with a Purple Ribbon Campaign Sept. 27 at 7:30 a.m. during a law enforcement breakfast at Best Western, 1125 E. Gore Blvd. in Lawton.

The Armywide theme for October's Domestic Violence Prevention month is "End Domestic Violence - Recognize It, Report It and Prevent It."

In recognition of the month, Army Community Service's (ACS) Family Advocacy Program (FAP) will sponsor a law enforcement

"purple ribbon campaign". The purple ribbon is a unifying symbol of courage, survival, honor and dedication to end domestic and intimate partner violence in our communities.

"Law enforcement is essential to this process and has the responsibility of deterring future violence by protecting victims and holding offenders accountable," said Robert Pirtle, Directorate of Emergency Services director.

Pirtle added purple ribbons tied to the antennas on law enforcement vehicles will symbolize Southwest Oklahoma law enforcement's unity and commitment toward ending domestic violence.

The FAP, located at 4700 Mow Way Road, promotes public awareness within the military community and coordinates professional intervention within the civilian and military communities designed to end domestic and intimate partner violence, as well as child abuse. Focusing on enhancing protective factors in relationships, the program offers a range of resources to service members, military spouses or partners, and military children.
