FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 25, 2013) -- Get your riding gear ready -- the Warrior Outreach Horsemanship event is back from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at Wetherby Field.

Warrior Outreach was established in 2008. It became a nonprofit organization in 2012 to help Soldiers, veterans and their Families with the use of equine therapy. The biannual horsemanship event is free and open to the public and includes demonstrations, horsemanship skill training, roping for children, pony rides and rides for adults.

"As this program continues to gain exposure within the Army community, (we) hope to reach out and help countless warriors, Families, and veterans from the surrounding community through team building, community (and) rehabilitation events," said Warrior Outreach founder and retired Command Sgt. Maj. Sam Rhodes.

The event is run by volunteers and funded through private donations.

"(This) event will be dedicated to the late Art Chriss from Commandos and Sgt. Dale Lutrell, a Vietnam Veteran -- both proud supporters of our Warrior Outreach Program," he said.
