Middletown, Iowa -- The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant welcomed the Army Materiel Command's Commanding General Gen. Dennis L. Via on Sept. 18. Only once before has the IAAAP been visited by a four-star general.

Plant Commander Lt. Col. Michael T. Triplett welcomed Via to IAAAP where he toured the 40- millimeter Grenade, Mine Clearing Line Charge, and Melt Pour production lines.

"The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant is the only remaining organic load, assemble, and pack installation for medium and large caliber ammunition in the world," Triplett said. "We welcome this opportunity to provide General Via an opportunity to demonstrate our uniqueness."

The Iowa plant is one of 20 AMC Organic Industrial Base sites that provide distinctive capabilities that do not exist anywhere else in the country.

"AMC's top priority is providing the equipment and materiel our Soldiers require to accomplish their mission -- anytime, anyplace in the world," Via stated in his briefing to IAAAP leadership following the tour. "Work performed at this facility is unique and critical to our nation's defense. The operations cannot be replicated and must be sustained."

AMC is the Army's premier provider of Army and joint readiness.

From its headquarters at the Rock Island Arsenal, the Joint Munitions Command operates a nationwide network of conventional ammunition manufacturing plants and storage depots, and provides on-site ammunition experts to U.S. combat units wherever they are stationed or deployed. JMC's customers are U.S. forces of all military services, other U.S. government agencies and allied nations.

As an AMC installation, IAAAP is an organic industrial base providing capabilities that, in many cases, do not exist anywhere else in the United States.

From its headquarters in Middletown, Ia., IAAAP produces and delivers component assembly, and medium and large caliber ammunition items for the Department of Defense using modern production methods in support of worldwide operations.
