Pine Bluff Arsenal kicked off their ramp up to this year's Combined Federal Campaign with a key worker training Aug. 29. Approximately 30 key workers attended the training conducted by personnel from the Heart of Arkansas United Way, including Normal Gilchrest. Gilchrest will be the Arsenal's sponsored representative, and will work closely with Laura Hiserodt, Arsenal CFC Coordinator. He also served as the guest speaker during the CFC kickoff last year.
"Thank you for being here and thank you for doing what you do for the Combined Federal Campaign," said Gilchrest, who is a retired postal worker.
The Arsenal's goal this year for CFC is $50,000. The campaign runs from Oct. 3 to Nov. 14. The Arsenal moved into the CFC of Greater Arkansas/Heart of Arkansas United Way last year.
During the training, Gilchrest pointed out some of the awards that will be given to individual donors during the campaign. These include the Patriot Giver-$120 to $249, the Supergiver-$250 to $499; the Hero Giver-$500 to $999 and the Golden Eagle-$1,000 and up.
"The payroll deduction method is the most used way to give," said Gilchrest. "The reason for this is simple, effective and easy on your pocketbook. It is also important to know what your overall goal is and strive towards that. You as key workers can develop strategies that work within your individual areas. Think about revving up your campaign as soon as it kicks off."
Key workers in areas around the Arsenal will soon be armed with the tools of the campaign -- pledge cards and charity booklets -- as well as information for personnel. According to training information, the primary role of the key workers is to inform their co-workers about the CFC, educate them about their options in giving, distribute the campaign materials, and pick up the results.
Once the pledge cards are filled out, key workers in the directorates will collect and deliver them to Hiserodt for final tally.
The CFC, which began in the early 1960s, is one of only two fund drives allowed on U.S. Army installations during work hours. It affords all employees an opportunity to contribute to one or more charitable, humanitarian or medical research organizations at a local or national level. Federal employees continue to make the CFC the largest and most successful workplace philanthropic fundraiser in the world.
PBA will officially kick off its campaign Oct. 3 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Arsenal's Community Club.
Last year, the Arsenal exceeded its goal by raising approximately $68,290. The installation also received fourth place for the largest campaign for the 2012 CFC from the Heart of Arkansas United Way, as well as a CFC Bronze Award -- which is based on the level of giving by Arsenal employees. Pine Bluff Arsenal is one of the largest federal contributors in Southeast Arkansas.
