FORT SILL, Okla. -- Women looking for a place to enjoy fellowship time and intriguing Bible study should check out the weekly Protestant Women of the Chapel meetings.
The PWOC kickoff event took place Sept. 4 at Frontier Chapel. About 60 ladies attended the morning group and power lunch, and were introduced to this year's study called "The Story." This study is a chronological summary of the Bible, sort of a Reader's Digest version, which will take participants from Genesis to Revelation in 31 easy-to-read lessons.
PWOC hosts weekly women's Bible study groups. All women are welcome to attend. They are a non-denominational group and always happy to greet visitors.
The Wednesday morning Bible study meets from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and offers a children's ministry program, small group discussion, praise and worship and large group learning experiences.
A woman's Power Lunch Bible study meets from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and is a come-and-go format designed to accommodate the lunch hour break for active duty, civilian employees, students or anyone with limited time. Participants can share requests and pray for one another. Ladies may bring lunch with them.
Now through May 14, both groups will discover how God's story has always been one of compassion and love for his people. The ladies will have a reading and devotional study to complete at home each week and then come to chapel Wednesdays for discussion, fellowship and prayer. All study materials are provided at no cost to participants.
Gather to Grow is a monthly, social time where the ladies get together and enjoy each other's company. They have spent time doing crafts or going on outings such as the movies.
All groups meet at Frontier Chapel, Bldg. 4121 Thomas Road.
Rita Glenn, PWOC president, said the group is excited to offer a children's ministry program called "The Story for Little Ones" in conjunction with Wednesday meeting. The volunteer led ministry will guide children through the same biblical lessons that their moms are learning about each week. Crystal Niehoff will be the lead teacher for this group and will have a team of volunteers to help her each week.
In addition to Bible studies, the PWOC also helps the Fort Sill chapels and unit ministry teams through special projects.
The PWOC's outreach ministry supports local organizations through projects such as a baby shower for the Pregnancy Resource Center, baking cookies for the Fort Sill hospital staff and filling Operation Christmas shoeboxes.
