FORT SILL, Okla. -- As part of Operation Live Well and Fort Sill's Healthy Base Initiative, the 15th Annual Body versus Earth Triathlon is Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. at Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area (LETRA).

It consists of a 500-meter swim, an 18-mile bike ride and a 4-mile trail run.

The triathlon is hosted by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation's Sports Branch.

"The triathlon is open to male and female athletes 12 years old and up," said Shane Dunlevy, Community Recreation officer. "Individuals will compete in age divisions in male and female categories. Teams will consist of three members, each doing a separate leg of the triathlon."

Fees are $25 for military, $30 for civilians and $85 for teams (mixed, male or female). Add $5 for people who register on race day. They may register online at www.sillmwr.com or at FMWR Sports, Building 4744, Mow-Way Road here.

The race starts in front of the LETRA bath house.

"The swimming leg will be open water swimming, with the use of wet suits being optional," Dunlevy said.

"This is a fast, challenging course," he added. "It's not the typical triathlon course. The four-mile trail run makes the triathlon unique to the area and the region."

Three-man teams should have individual entry forms filled out by each member. One team registration form must be filled out for the team and should indicate which category the team will compete in. One check may be written for the entire team.

"Participants can camp at LETRA the night before the triathlon in either primitive and RV camp sites," said Dunlevy.

For more information on camping at LETRA call 580-442-5858, or reserve a cabin online at the MWRwebsite.

"Again this year, we are pleased to have sponsorship support to help put on this event. We must extend a big thank you to Fort Sill Federal Credit Union for their commitment to support," said Andrew Duffy, FMWR sponsorship coordinator.
