ANSBACH, Germany (Aug. 27, 2013) -- As Aug. 26 marked the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year for Ansbach Middle/High School, or AMHS, there were many new faces among the crowds of students and teachers, as the latest wave of permanent changes of duty station has brought new community members to U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach. One of the latest arrivals is the new assistant principal of the middle high school, Esther Harrison, who will support the principal David Carlisle in the administration of the school.

Harrison was first introduced by Carlisle to the parents and students at the AMHS orientation day the Friday prior to the first day of school. The orientation day is held annually to give parents and students an opportunity to find out about school policies and programs, order yearbooks early and purchase "Cougar" T-shirts and other fundraiser items, as well as pick up the new schedule and a map of the school.

Harrison, who originally hails from Washington D.C., but calls Virginia her home state, is coming to Ansbach from the Hohenfels community where she worked as the assistant principal of the Hohenfels Elementary School. Harrison has been an educator for 23 years and has spent the last six years in Europe; her family still lives in Hohenfels where her two younger children attend middle and high school. Her grown son is a Navy recruit in Virginia, while her husband Tony enjoys his retirement from 27 years as a ranger in the Special Forces.

During the orientation brief, Harrison informed the assembled parents and students about the academic and non-academic opportunities at AMHS, as well as regulations and administrational procedures. Besides offering a full course program and accreditation for all colleges and universities in the United States, the school also provides plenty of after-school activities such as seasonal sports and clubs. Harrison said she is "very serious about making sure each student has a successful year" and stressed that she considers the children attending AMHS not an anonymous student body but "396 individuals coming together," and she intends to help them make the best out of it.

For all school related questions and topics, the garrison's school liaison officer can be called at 09802-83-2098 or DSN 467-2098 or 0162-270-8763. To contact Ansbach Middle/High School, visit www.ansb-hs.eu.dodea.edu or call 09802-83-2808 or DSN 467-2808.
