CAMP HUMPHREYS -- U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys' Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation was among four garrisons selected as a 2013 winner of the Exemplary Workforce Development Award, presented by the Maj. Gen. Robert M. Joyce Installation Management Academy School for Family and MWR. The goal of the award is to recognize MWR organizations that have demonstrated strong commitment to MWR employees through formal training, coaching and mentoring and other opportunities for professional development at all levels in the organization.

"This year, we wanted to recognize the organizations whose leader's model strong commitment to professional development not only for themselves but for those they lead," said Pam Jones, branch chief, Development and Delivery, at the academy. Nominations were evaluated by a review committee to select four garrisons that, based on size of workforce, most clearly demonstrate strong commitment to professional development.

The award criteria included: highest percentage of population registered at www.imcomacademy.com, percentage of population trained in each identified training area and the impact of leadership driven successes within the organization. The Humphreys FMWR leadership personally models excellence in customer service through their application of policy and programs.

The director and division chiefs are actively involved with customer relations, visiting facilities daily and approaching customers regarding services received. The leaders routinely solicit staff for their opinions and apply their ideas to our programs and services and have an "open door policy" as well as an "open email policy" where all employees are encouraged to stop by, or drop a line, to the division chiefs with their ideas for customer service or process improvements.

All 240 FMWR employees have an opportunity to be nominated for the DFMWR Employee of the Month award. When reviewing nominations for the recognition program, division chiefs weigh customer service excellence higher than other award criteria. The employee recognition program also places self-motivation, initiative, and innovation for special projects high on the scoring metric when selecting a winning nomination.
