WASHINGTON (Under SecArmy Public Affairs, August 31, 2013) -- Under Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal and Lt. Gen. William N. Phillips, Military Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics & Technology, conducted industry visits with the Army's industrial base in Pennsylvania and Arizona between August 14-30, 2013. The leaders visited Raytheon, General Dynamics, Boeing-Mesa in Arizona and Boeing's Vertical Lift facility in Ridley Park, Pa.

The leaders visited the facilities to gain situational awareness and tour the manufacturing facilities. The Army's deliberate efforts to maintain a relationship with industry are critical to ensuring the production of capabilities required to support the Warfighter. The visits reinforce the Army's commitment to the industrial base and to preserving the lines of communication with industry partners.

While at the facilities, Westphal and Phillips also met with uniformed and civilian personnel assigned to the U.S. Army Acquisition, Logistics & Technology community and the Defense Contract Management Agency. Westphal underscored the value and contributions of the DoD civilian workforce and personally thanked them for their continued dedication, loyalty, and commitment to the Army mission.

"The work you do here is extremely important to the Army [DOD] and to the nation. We value your selfless service and appreciate your contributions to the Warfighter and to our national defense. You're all true patriots and the Army thanks you for all that you do as we navigate through these very serious challenges," Westphal said to personnel at the various facilities he visited.
