FORT BENNING, Ga., (Aug. 14, 2013) -- As soon as Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced that the total number of furlough days had been reduced, the Martin Army Community Hospital health-care team implemented plans to resume normal hours of operation for the hospital and outlying clinics.

Beginning Aug. 19, all Patient Centered Medical Homes will resume pre-furlough availability for telephone consultations, secure messaging, and in-clinic appointments from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"We were delighted when the reduction in furlough hours was announced. This opportunity to return to normal primary care operations while returning our civilians back to work was great news", said William Carver, Group Practice manager for the Department of Primary Care. The North Columbus Medical Home, for example, had been closed on Fridays and now will resume seeing patients 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Due to the ongoing sequestration, the main Pharmacy will continue to be closed on Saturday.

"The Tricare Mail Order Pharmacy offers a great alternative for patients when the pharmacy is closed," said Lt. Col. Stacey Causey, chief, pharmacy. "It's really easy to use and you can have your non-narcotic medications delivered straight to your home."

Winder Clinic Saturday sick call will continue to take place next to the Emergency Department at the hospital.

Updates will posted at www.martin.amedd.army.mil and on Facebook.
