The commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center visited Fort Riley July 29 to discuss changes in Army doctrine with 1st Infantry Division leadership.
Lt. Gen. David G. Perkins, who also commands Fort Leavenworth, Kan., spoke with the division's leaders about the impact the changes in Army doctrine will have on training leaders and empowering all Soldiers.
Perkins told the "Big Red One" senior leaders that this doctrinal overhaul, which was completed in August, was a massive undertaking.
"We decided to redo all of our doctrine at the same time," Perkins said. "That's never been done before."
He continued to talk step-by-step about the process behind the Army's new philosophy on changing its doctrine.
Perkins will continue to visit installations across the Army to discuss mission command.
This visit was one in a series of professional development engagements the 1st Inf. Div. leaders will attend. The professional development program kicked off in July.
