Registration begins Aug. 12 for annual all-services conference hosted by Army

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii (July 26, 2013) -- Operation HOOAH! is in full swing, here, as the Army takes the lead on this year's Joint Spouses Conference, which will be held at the Nehelani, Saturday, Oct. 5.

The mission of this year's conference and Operation HOOAH! is to celebrate the adventure of being a military spouse.

"While our lifestyle is inherently challenging, there are incredible opportunities that come our way, and one of those is living in Hawaii," said Sheila Johnson, JSC director. "This year's conference will challenge spouses to try something new, do something different, learn a new skill, meet new people."

JSC 2013 offers a wide variety of workshops and adventure-driven activities, a phenomenal guest speaker, an information expo, a light breakfast, lunch and wrap-up party with entertainment.

Registration always fills up fast, so early registration is encouraged, beginning online at 7 p.m., Aug. 12, at www.jschawaii.com for the opportunity to grab a conference spot and book favorite workshops.

The JSC is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to conduct educational and informational workshops for spouses of active duty, Reserve, National Guard and retirees from armed services, as well as spouses of international military officers assigned to a U.S. military unit.

The conference is designed to enrich, enlighten and empower attendees in their roles as spouses, parents, professionals and community leaders. Participating in this annual event is an amazing way for up to 400 spouses from across the services to network while sharing their experiences in paradise and military life.

Some of the workshops scheduled include a hands-on Thai cooking experience presented by Plumeria Café and, for the more daring, a fun-filled North Shore water adventure, complete with stand-up paddling, ocean kayaking and water war on an IMAT.

Additionally, the Hale Koa Hotel will share the secrets to making perfect tropical cocktails in Mixology 101, and military spouse, Jessie Higa, will take participants back in time on a historical trolley tour of Schofield Barracks.

Something for everyone is at this year's conference.
